Welcome to ...
The Challenger Society for Marine Science
The Challenger Society has members in Universities, research institutes, regulatory agencies and more widely in the UK and indeed worldwide. The society thereby is the main academic society representing the UK academic marine research community. It also has strong links to and members with the UK marine technology sector and policy community.
The UK marine science community is strong, large and world-leading with its ships and scientists operating around the world.
The reputation of the UK marine science community is second to none and this gives the Challenger Society, as the representative of this community, authority and influence. The Challenger Council aims to serve the members by providing a voice for this community, and to support it and encourage its activities through its publications, scientific meetings and bursaries schemes. By joining the Challenger Society you benefit from the activities and reputation of the Society and contribute to the activities and reputation.
The Society was founded in 1906 and over a century later brings together scientists working and researching in all areas of the marine sciences.
These pages hold the central resource for information about the Society. Information about past events, coming events, conferences, workshops, publications (the Society publishes a monthly newsletter Challenger Wave and a journal, Ocean Challenge) can all be found on this site.
